Between road closures, Will managed to make it out to his hometown, Warren, to deliver custom-made bedside tables and a sideboard to the Ruskin Rowe Family.
Sideboard
The Wormy Chestnut Sideboard has a new feature which we think’s pretty cool. We have incorporated a new way of keeping the fronts minimal for integrated handles. The "L" bracket of timber allows a single piece of timber to be seen. We believe this makes for cleaner lines and is most importantly, more practical.
Bedside Tables
The Spotted Gum Bedside Tables were made using a new veneer which is known as mismatched. Traditional veneers are repetitive in the grain along the board. The Will Brennan team like to use a mismatch pattern which means there is no repeat and gives the look of solid timber.
Veneer technique explained…
Why did we use veneer? As timber is a natural product, it is subject to movement caused by temperature and humidity. As furniture makers, we need to be aware of this in all aspects of construction. Typically and broadly speaking, a veneer is 1.6mm ‘sheets’ of timber that are glued and pressed onto a substrate such as Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF).
This means, there is little to no movement as the timber is not thick or strong enough to force movement along the substrate. Things such as doors and drawers need to be stable so your piece of furniture has a longer life span.
