Timber choice is an important part of your design process
Timber choice is an integral part of your design process. Will Brennan Designs sources a wide variety of beautiful timber from Britton Timbers.
We are happy to discuss timber choice with you. You can visit the workshop to choose your timber or book a consultation and we can advise you on timber options in the comfort of your home so, you know the timber choice will match your surroundings.
These timbers are trending in the workshop:
American Walnut
Is a dense, strong wood that is rich in colour
Popular in high-end luxury furniture
Commonly used for furniture, musical instruments, carvings and trims
Description: Will Brennan recently made this sideboard with American Walnut.
Will says, Walnut is a pleasure to work with and a pleasure to look at - Walnut is generally straight-grained, but sometimes it can have an attractive wavy or curly grain.
American White Oak
Is light in colour but like American Walnut, it is still rich in appearance
White Oak has low stiffness and good overall strength
This timber is easy to work with and readily accepts stains and polishes for a good finish
Description: Will Brennan recently made this dining table with American White Oak.
American White Oak is mostly straight grain with a medium to coarse texture, with longer rays than red oak.
Tasmanian Oak
Pale to light brown in colour with a pinkish tinge
This timber is highly resilient and easy to work with
A timeless, budget-friendly timber option
Description: Will Brennan Designs made this dining table with Tasmanian Oak.
Tasmanian Oak has a moderately coarse, but even texture. The grain is sometimes interlocked with visible - but not prominent - growth rings and gum veins are common.
Australian Wormy Chestnut
Typically features gum pockets and veins as well as small holes/black features from ambrosia beetles
Is a hard-wearing and durable timber specials
Has become fashionable for its rustic character
Description: Will Brennan Designs recently made this vanity with Australian Wormy Chestnut.
Wormy Chestnut has been affected by bushfires, years of drought and attacks from insects, thus nature’s signature is apparent within each piece of wood. Deep red gum veins are formed by fire, and beetle/worm marks add to the ‘wormy’ chestnut appearance.
