Workshop update: Upskilling to offer upholstery
Will and the team are constantly looking at ways to expand on the services offered in the workshop.
As the business grows, we continue to add new products and services for our clients. Will has received many inquiries regarding creating custom-made chairs.
During April, Suzy attended a two-day upholstery course hosted by Chair Repair School.
Chairs have an obvious symbiotic relationship with all furniture in a home, hence Will Brennan Designs' desire to bring upholstery skills in-house for creating chairs.
At the course…
Teacher Fiona is an English lady who learned her skills when living in the United Kingdom. Fiona learned to upholster the traditional way with basic tools - hand stitching was utilised regularly and horse hair was used for stuffing.
Suzy thoroughly enjoyed learning from Fiona - her patience when it comes to teaching exceptional foundational upholstery skills has put Suzy in good stead for what she’ll be tasked to do at Will Brennan Designs.

The project…
Will tasked the pair to create a zipper-panelled cushion with a scalloped-edged backrest. To add to the overall aesthetics, Fiona and Suzy decided to add pipping to the backrest. Suzy thus had to create approximately 11 meters of piping.

Upholstery in the workshop…
We will use our in-house upholstery skills to create chairs initially. In the future, we would look to introduce other furniture designs like custom timber sofas.
Fabric...
To ensure furniture longevity, we recommend using quality fabric supplied by places like Warwick Fabrics - we can order samples for you. Alternatively, customers can supply their own fabric.
